| Late Heavy Bombardment | Period in the solar early solar system when the planets were constantly being struck by asteroids. |
| Outgassing | the process where gases from Earth's interior, primarily from volcanic activity, are released into the atmosphere, which was crucial in forming the planet's early atmosphere and continues to shape it today. |
| Cyanobacteria | They are significant in Earth's history because they were the first organisms to produce oxygen through photosynthesis, which gradually oxygenated the atmosphere and paved the way for the evolution of aerobic life. |
