Scatterplots

QuestionAnswer
two way table a table that displays two variable data by organizing it into rows and columns
trend line models the behavior of the data displayed in a scatter plot
linear relationship or association when the data points lie roughly along a line
positive associations have this type of slope positive
negative associations have this type of slope negative
outlier as part of a data set of ordered pairs it is a point that does not follow the overall pattern on a graph of the data set.
no association no relationship between their data values
scatter plot a graph with points plotted to show a possible relationship between two sets of data
Standard response to the relationship question As the
negative association is when one set of data values increases while the other decreases
nonlinear association when the data seem to follow a pattern resembling anything other than a line it may be this type of association
strong association when the data is close to the line, and is roughly evenly distributed on either side of the line
weak association when the data is not closely associated to the line, but roughly follows the trend line
interpolation an estimate of a value of a point between two given points in a data set
extrapolation an estimate of the value of a point that extends beyond the data set
exponential form when the answer is presented with a base and a power or a constant and a variable
expanded form a number written out with each value of the digits separated by an addition sign
standard form digits written in number form or as a regular number
scientific notation when numbers are expressed as products multiplied to a number between 1 and 10 multiplied with appropriate power of 10
