Force & Momentum
LC Physics
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Force | (mass)(acceleration) |
| Mass | Measure of how difficult it is to accelerate that body. |
| 1 Newton | The force that gives a mass of 1 kg an acceleration of 1 m/s^2. |
| Weight | (mass)(gravity) |
| Newton's First Law of Motion | Every body will remain at rest or continue to move at a constant velocity unless an unbalanced external force acts on it. |
| Newton's Second Law of Motion | Force is directly proportional to rate of change of momentum. |
| Newton's Third Law of Motion | When body A exerts a force on body B, then body B exerts an equal but opposite force on body A. |
| Momentum | (mass)(velocity) |
| Friction | Force that opposes motion. |
| Principle of Conservation of Momentum | Momentum before = momentum after in a closed system. |
