3.2.2 Immune Defesn

Platelets small, colorless cell fragments in our blood that form clots and stop or prevent bleeding
Red blood cells A type of blood cell that is made in the bone marrow and found in the blood
White blood cells part of the body's immune system. They help the body fight infection and other diseases.
pathogens bacteria, fungi, protozoa, worms, viruses, and even infectious proteins called prions
antigens a toxin or other foreign substance which induces an immune response in the body, especially the production of antibodies.
B-Cells protect you from infection by making proteins called antibodies.
Antibodies a blood protein produced in response to and counteracting a specific antigen.
Innate Immunity the host's first line of defense and is intended to prevent infection and attack the invading pathogens.
Acquired Immunity A type of immunity that develops when a person's immune system responds to a foreign substance or microorganism, or that occurs after a person receives antibodies from another source
Active immunity the immunity which results from the production of antibodies by the immune system in response to the presence of an antigen.
Passive immunity A type of immunity that occurs when a person is given antibodies rather than making them through his or her own immune system
Phagocytes a type of cell within the body capable of engulfing and absorbing bacteria and other small cells and particles.
Autoimmune Disease these attacks can affect any part of the body, weakening bodily function and even turning life-threatening.
Innate existing in, belonging to, or determined by factors present in an individual from birth
neutrophil A type of white blood cell that is an important part of the immune system and helps the body fight infection
dendritic a type of antigen-presenting cell (APC) that play an essential role in the adaptive immune system
helper T They activate other immune cells to fight infections.
Macrophage A type of white blood cell that surrounds and kills microorganisms, removes dead cells, and stimulates the action of other immune system cells
Cytotoxic T They attack and destroy infections. They are an important part of your adaptive immunity.
Memory B B lymphocytes are the cells of the immune system that make antibodies to invading pathogens like viruses.
Plasma B differentiated B-lymphocyte white blood cells capable of secreting immunoglobulin or antibodies.
B Lymphocytes A type of white blood cell that makes antibodies.
T Lymphocytes a type of white blood cell called lymphocytes. They help your immune system fight germs and protect you from disease.
