TermDefinition
Community-based approaches involved the community in identifying and defining crime and problems and they leverage the public as “hidden allies” in crime prevention
Problem-based approaches attempt to understand and address underlying causes of crime and disorder and to draw solution to eliminate these underlying causes of crime
Place-based approaches capitalize on geographic crime concentration to focus policing resources in small places at specific times
Person-based approaches recognize that a small proportion of individuals are involved n a disproportionate amount of crime
Procedural Justice is related to process and fairness. Focuses on the quality of treatment citizens receive and the quality of decision making during police - public encounters
Directed Patrol is proactive and uses officers uncommitted time for a specified activity and is based on crime and problem analysis
Specific deterrence where the goal was to focus on the seizure of illegal weapons from targeted offenders
General deterrence where the goal was to maximize motor vehicle stops as signs of increased police presence
Intelligence Led policing strategy emphasizes the use of real-time crime analysis but it also incorporates intelligence analysis in the deployment of both specialized units and regular patrol officers
Predictive policing using data to react to incidents and patterns more quickly and to predict them in the hope of taking preventive or proactively
Fousced Detterence initiatives targeting violent crime areas and groups demonstrate promise
Universalistic perspectives considers the way officers are similar
Sociological perspective emphasizes the social context in which police officers are hired and trained and in which police-citzen interactions occur
Psychological perspective is concerned with the nature of the "police personality"
Organizational perspective suggests that organizational (deparments) factors play an important role in police behavior
Particularistic perspectives focus on decision-making differences among officers
