Math Ch8 Vocab

QuestionAnswer
center The point from which all points on a circle are the same distance.
circle The set of all points on a plane that are the same distance from a given point called the center.
circumference The distance around a circle.
composite figure A figure that is made up of two or more three-dimensional figures.
diameter The distance across a circle through its center.
lateral face In a polyhedron, a face that is not a base.
lateral surface area The sum of the areas of all of the lateral faces of a solid.
pi The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The Greek letter π represents this number.
radius The distance from the center of a circle to any point on the circle.
regular pyramid A pyramid whose base is a regular polygon and in which the segment from the vertex to the center of the base is the altitude.
semicircle Half of a circle. The formula for its area is 1/2 πr².
slant height The height of each lateral face.
surface area The sum of the areas of all of the surfaces (faces) of a three-dimensional figure.
volume The number of cubic units needed to fill the space occupied by a solid.
