informational text/nonfiction a genre of writing with the purpose of providing information
key idea what the passage is mostly about
key detail ideas that explain, describe, or define the topic
nonfiction summary gives the main idea and supporting details of a passage
text organization the structure an author uses to present ideas in a text
compare and contrast a type of text organization that explains how two items or ideas are alike or different
cause and effect a type of text organization that explains what happened and how it happened
problem and solution a type of text organization that explains a problem and how to solve the problem
description a type of text organization that tells about about a topic using sensory details (sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell)
sequence/chronological a type of text organization that lists events in the order that they happened
conclude/conclusion a judgment or decision reached by reasoning based on multiple examples from the text
infer/the reader can tell to arrive to a conclusion using background knowledge and context clues
analyze to closely study and think about information or ideas in order to better understand and explain them
article informational text on a specific topic
nonfiction author's purpose to present factual information to the reader; read to learn
paraphrase restate the meaning of something in different words.
text evidence paraphrased or directly quoted detail(s) from a text that supports a reader’s claim, thought, inference, or analysis about the text
thesis/claim a statement or premise supported by arguments
topic a specific subject, idea, or issue that is the focus of a discussion, essay, article, or other work
