| dominant trait | Traits that hide other traits when passed on to offspring. Example: brown eyes, |
| recessive trait | Traits that do not show unless both recessive alleles are present. Example: blue eyes |
| genotype | The "genetic makeup" of an individual organism. Example: FF, Ff, ff. |
| phenotype | The physical appearance of an organism. Example: Blue eyes, black fur. |
| heterozygous | Having one dominant and one recessive allele for a specific trait. Example: Ff or Rr or one capital letter and one lowercase. |
| homozygous dominant | Having two identical dominant alleles for a specific trait. Example: FF or RR or any combination of two capital letters. |
| homozygous recessive | Having two identical recessive alleles for a specific trait. Example: ff or rr or any combination of two lowercase letters. |
| allele | The variance in a gene, which occurs on a fixed spot on a chromosome. |
| chromosomes | Thread like structures found in the nucleus of a cell that contains all DNA. |
| heredity | The transfer of traits from parents to their offspring. |
| Punnett Square | A diagram used to determine the probability (chance) of an offspring having a particular trait. |
