FORCES?

QuestionAnswer
The greater the mass, the greater the inertia More force is needed
What is force A push or pull on an object
Force causes “things” to Change speed or change direction
Force is measured in Newtons (N)
Net force is The total force acting on an object
Balanced forces are when All forces acting on an object are balanced Net=0
What happens with speed with balanced forces? There is no speed, NO acceleration, no motion
When all forces are equal in size and are pointed in the opposite direction. They balance each other and cancel each other out Balanced forces
When one force is greater than the opposing force, net does NOT equal zero, There must be a change in direction OR a change in speed Unbalanced forces
Adding forces Two forces are added together to produce a larger net force than the original force. Forces are pointed in the SAME direction
Is adding forces an unbalanced or balanced force Unbalanced, same direction, positive acceleration (gets faster)
Is subtracting forces an unbalanced or balanced force Unbalanced, opposite direction, negative acceleration (gets slower)
Is pushing an unbalanced or balanced force Balanced, no acceleration
Is pulling an unbalanced or balanced force Balanced, no acceleration
Subtracting forces Two forces can subtract a net force in the direction of the larger force. A force in one direction is grater than the force in the opposite direction resulting in the difference between the 2 forces
How much of a object accelerates depends on the mass of the object and the force applied . 2nd law
For every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction. 3rd law
An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. 1st law
It's easier to push an empty shopping cart rather than one that is full of groceries . 2nd law
A skateboarder hits a rock and is thrown over onto the ground. 1st law
A car tire pushes on the road, and the road pushes back on the tire. 3rd law
The harder you hit a baseball, the further the ball travels 2nd law
The magician quickly pulls the tablecloth from under a set of dishes. The dishes don't move 1st law
Air is released from a balloon. The air pushes down, and the balloon goes up 3rd law
A soccer ball will stay where it landed until a person kicks it 1st law
A cannon moves backwards as the cannonball shoots out 3rd law
The Planets resist a change in motion and continually orbit the sun 1st law

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
