Abandonment the act of leaving someone or something
Abdominal Thrust Place your arms around their waist and bend them forward. Clench 1 fist and place it right above their belly button. Put the other hand on top of your fist and pull sharply inwards and upwards. Repeat this movement up to 5 times.
Abductor Wedge used to separate the legs of a patient; commonly used after hip surgery, to keep the hip from popping out
Abnormal Vital Signs pulse less than 60 or higher than 100, temp. less than 95 or higher than 99.6, respirations lower than 12 or higher than 20, oxygen level lower than 95
Absorption nutrients taken from the digestive system and put into blood
Abuse interactions causing physical, sexual, or emotional harm to an individual
Accidents an unexpected bodily event
Accountable be responsible for your actions and give reasoning for it
Activities
Acute typically related to the resident’s rehabilitation process, an infection, or an injury.
Adaptive a change in function to meet new conditions
Adaptive Devices make navigation and completion of tasks for those with mobility, vision, or hearing impairment
Adaptive Equipment used to simplify caregiving or make a safer environment for the ill, disabled, or elderly
Adduction movement of a limb toward the midline
ADL's hygiene, grooming, dressing, fluid and nutritional intake, mobility and elimination needs
Alzheimers (AD) most common type of dementia; declining function of the brain over time
Ambulation walking
Amputees removal of a limb
Anatomy structure of a plant, animal, or human
Anemia low red blood cells

Axillary Temperature armpit temperature, can be one degree lower then oral

Basic Needs air, water, food, sleep, sex
Bath Water Temperature 98-100F
Bathing a partial bath, shower, tub bath, or full bed bath
Bed Cradle a framework of metal strips or other material that forms a cage over an injured part of the body of a patient lying in bed, to protect it from the pressure of the bedclothes

Bed Making he technique of preparing different types of bed making patients / clients comfortable in his/ her suitable position for a particular condition

Bipolar Disorder shifts in mood from abnormal highs to abnormal lows, can change persons function or sociality

Care Impaired When a person has trouble remembering, learning new things, concentrating, or making decisions that affect their everyday life
Care Plan summarize a person's health conditions, specific care needs, and current treatments
Care Planning The care plan should outline what needs to be done to manage the care needs. It can help organize and prioritize caregiving activities
Cast A protective shell of fiberglass, plastic, or plaster, and bandage that is molded to protect broken or fractured limb(s) as it heals
Cataract a cloudy area in the lens of your eye
Catheter flexible tube inserted through a narrow opening into a body cavity
