Mode of action of Aspirin Anacin Disprin Cafenol Pengo Hedex Alka-seltzer The drug relieves pain and suppresses inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin biosynthesis. It relieved fever by acting on the hypothalamic heat regulating centre in the brain.
Indication of Aspirin Anacin Disprin Cafenol Pengo Hedex Alka- Mild to moderate pain Fever Dysmonorrhoea Rheumatoid arthritis
Contraindition of Aspirin Anacin Disprin Cafenol Pengo Hedex Children under 12 years Breast feeding mothers Peptic ulcer Haemophillia
Dosage of Anacin , aspirin , pengo , Hedex , Disprin cafenol and alka- seltzer for adult for analgesic and antipyretic Adults: 325 - 650mg P.O every 4 - 6 hours up to a maximum of 4g daily.
Dosage of aspirin, Anacin , pengo, Hedex , Disprin cafenol and alka seltzer for anti inflammation initially 2.4-3.6g P.O daily in divided doses, maintenance dose: usually 3.6 - 5.4g daily.
Nursing implication of salicylate 1. Administer drug with food, milk, antacid or large glass of water to minimize gastro intestinal distress. 2. Watch for bleeding gum or any form of GIT bleeding 3. Observe and teach diabetic patients that hypoglycaemia may occur

Mode of action of (Acetaminophen, Panadol, Capol, Em cap, Pentax, Saridon-P) The drug inhibits the synthesis of (prostaglandins) that serve as mediators of pain and fever.
Indication of the paracetamol group of drugs are Mild to moderate pain Fever headache Toothache Dysmenorrhea
Paracetamol has pharmacological properties of Analgesic and antipyretic properties
Contraindition of paracetamol group of drugs are Hypersensitivity to drugs
Dosage of paracetamol group of drugs for adult 0.5 - 1g P.0 4 - 6 hourly as necessary up to a maximum of 4g. daily.
Dosage for paracetamol group of drugs for children 250 - 500mg P.O every 4 io 5 hours as necessary.
Dosage of paracetamol for children under 3 months to 1 year Syrup (120mg/5ml): 2.5 -,5ml P.O every 4 - 6 hours as necessary
Side effect of paracetamols group of drugs Liver damage on prolonged use an overdosage, skin rash, vertigo.

Mode of action of metamizol sodium The drug exerts analgesic antipyretic , Antispasmodic) and anti inflammatory effects through inhibition of prostaglandins and effect on the heat regulating centre in the hypothalamus of the brain.
Indication of metazol sodium Severe pain associated with rheumatic diseases toothache, injuries, operations tumours, smooth muscle spasm. Not recommended for miild complain
Contraindication of metamizol sodium Pyrazolore allergy, hypersensitivity.
Dosage metamizol for adult and adolescent over 15 years 0.5-1 g P.O as single dose up to maximum of 1 gram 4 times daily. Not recommended for children under 15
Side effect of metamizol Hypersensitivity reactions such as blood dyscrasias and shock renal disorders such as oliguria, anuria, proteinuria and urticarial eruptions.
Examples of some combination product of analgesic drugs are 1. Aspirin plus codeine phosphate 2. Paracetamol plus chlormenazone 3. Propyphenazone plus caffeine
Aspirin 400mg plus codeine phosphate 8mg Beecodeen
Indication for beecodeen drugs Headache rheumatic and nerve pains cold and feverish conditions.
Dosage of beecodeen for adult and children over 12 years 1 - 2 tablets P.O up to 4 times a day if necessary. Not exceeding 8 tablets within 24 hours. Not recommended for children under 12 years.
Side effect of beecodeen drug Constipation nausea vomiting dizziness drowsiness.
Route of administration of beecodeen Oral
PARACETAMOL. 450mg plus CHLORMENAZONE 100mg Beserol
Indication of beserol drugs
Dosage of beserol drugs for adult 1 - 2 tablets P.O 3 - 4 times daily depending on the severity of pain.
Maximum dosage of beserol drug Maximum of 8 tablets daily.
Dosage of beserol drug for children 7-12 year ½ tablet P.O 3 - 4 times daily starting with the lowest dosage and increased as needed.
Side effect of beserol drugs Drowsiness drug rash dizziness flushing nausea depression oedema inability to void weakness excitement headache, rarely urticaria.
PROPYPHENAZONE 125mg plus CAFFEINE 25mg Optalidon
Indication of optalidon drugs Symptomatic treatment of pains including headache of various origin, tooth ache and pain after dental extraction, pain following trauma or surgery, dysmenorrhea.
Dosage for adult optalidon 1 - 2 tablets daily.
Maximum dosage of optalidon Maximum of 1 - 3 tablets daily according to age.
