Types of Diets
| Term | Definition |

| lactovegetarian | diet consisting of vegetables, eggs, and dairy products, but no meat. |
| Atkins Diet | a low carbohydrate diet, including meat, fish, poultry, eggs, bacon and seafood. |
| Fad Diet | a diet sold as the best and fastest approach to losing weight. Some of these diets involve eliminating foods that contain necessary nutrients. |
| Paleo Diet | diet including lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. |
| Mediterranean Diet | includes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, and olive oil. |
| Typical American Diet | Modern dietary pattern that is generally characterized by high intakes of red meat, pre-packaged foods, butter, candy and sweets, fried foods conventionally |
| South Beach Diet | diet focused on eating lean protein, such as seafood, skinless poultry, lean beef, and soy products. Also includes high fiber veggies, low fat dairy and unsaturated fats. |
| Vegetarian Diet | This diet has no meat, including no chicken or fish. |
| Ketogenic Diet | a low-carb diet, similar to Atkins, in which you get more calories from protein and fats and limit carb intake. The diet aids in the production of ketones in the body. |
| Nutrient Rich | diets, those with: vitamins, minerals, fiber and that are low in calories, will help to manage weight and therefore reduce one's risk for cardiovascular disease. |
