Call and response Call and response can also be described as question and answer it is a structural device used to give music its shape
Binary form (ab) Describes music in 2 sections sometimes each section is heard twice aabb
Tenery form aba Describes music in 3 sections the first section can be labelled a the second b the b section contrasts in some way to the first a section which is repeated again also known as sandwich form
Unitary form a When a song has only one section that isn’t repeated e.g happy birthday
Rondo form abaca When a main melody is repeated wi contrasting melodies heard in between
Themes and variations Main theme with variations. Variations change some aspects of the main the,e each time e.g harmony tempo time signatures
Counter melody 2nd melody that is played along side the main melody
Drone A long continuous sound think of the sound a bee makes
Pedal A single note that is held or repeated
Layers of music Describes the texture of the music e.g melody and chords are 2 diffrent layers that make up a piece of music
Ostinato Is a pattern that repeated
Melodic ostinatos Repeating patterns they use pitch and rhythm to create there little melody So ti na to
Rhythm ostinatio Repeating musical pattern only uses rhythm can’t sing along e.g we will rock u
Harmonic ostinato An ostinato pattern that uses a distinctive harmonic progression that is repeated throughout a good part of the music. The chord progressions may be longer or shorter, like Pachelbel's “Canon in D” or Chopin's “Berceuse”, respectively.
Binary form Piece of music divided into 2 sections we call a and b key thing between them 2 sections is there is some form of comstrst a if diffrent to b (usally keychange)
Ternary form Divided in 3 sections aba binary form but you add the a agian

Minimalism Minimalism -  A style of music developed in the 1960's that uses repeating patterns to creating a hypnotic effect
