Unit 3- Forces
Unit Test
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Velocity | Speed in a specific direction |
| Reference Point | A location to which you compare other locations |
| Newton | The unit used to express force |
| Speed | Measures how far something moves in a given amount of time |
| Centripetal Acceleration | Occurs when an object travels in a curved path; the direction is always changing, but the speed stays the same |
| Interita | The resistance of an object to change its motion |
| Contact force | Example: friction between two objects |
| Newton's 1st law of motion | An object at rest wants to stay at rest and an object in motion wants to stay in motion, unless acted upon by a force |
| Newton's 2nd law of motion | F=ma; if you use the same amount of force on two objects, the object with less mass will travel further than the object with more mass |
| Newton's 3rd law of motion | For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction |
| Orbit | When an object travels around another object in space |
| Negative acceleration | When an object has a decrease in velocity |
| Gravity | Attracts all matter together |
| Law of universal gravity | All objects are attracted to one another through gravitational force |
