The Outsiders Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Abbreviation noun: a shortened form of a word or phrase.
Madras noun: a strong, fine-textured cotton fabric, typically patterned with colorful stripes or checks.
Cowlick noun: a lock of hair that grows in a direction different from the rest and that resists being combed flat.
Unfathomable adjective: incapable of being fully explored or understood.
Reputation noun: the beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something.
Incredulous adjective: (of a person or their manner) unwilling or unable to believe something.
Scatterbrain noun: a person who tends to be disorganized and lacking in concentration.
Gallantly adjective: (of a person or their behavior) brave; heroic.
Aloofness adjective: not friendly or forthcoming; cool and distant.
Elite noun: a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society.
Ornery adjective: bad-tempered and combative.
