A professional is a person with specialized learning who is engaged in a specified activity as an occupation. Professionals who specialize in the healthcare realm are referred to as healthcare professionals.
Professionalism refers to the conduct, character, skill, and judgment of a trained person. Healthcare professionals who act in an accountable and ethical manner in the workplace and maintain a steady composure in the face of adversity demonstrate professionalism.
Certification refers to the action or process of providing an individual with an official document attesting to their status or level of achievement.
Ethics refers to the formal study of moral choices that conform to standards of conduct. In the simplest sense, it means making judgments between right and wrong or listening to one’s conscience.
The most common accusation leveled in a lawsuit against a healthcare practitioner is malpractice
Continuous education The process by which a professional seeks recurrent learning activities and training beyond that required for the initial license
Confidentiality refers to healthcare professional’s obligation to maintain patient information in a manner that will not permit dissemination beyond the healthcare provider.
Healthcare professionals are taught to only discuss patient confidential information with those medical personnel who are involved in treating the patient. Professionals know not to make comments in public areas about patient information.
At the federal level, regulations issued pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) establishes many confidentiality restrictions, identifies what constitutes improper disclosure of protected health information, and addresses fines and other penalties that may be imposed if confidentiality is violated.
Licensing refers to a right conferred by a governmental body to practice an occupation or provide a service.
The two general types of health teams: functional and patient-centered
The achievement of a high level of skill in the discipline in which the professional is trained is a critical feature of professionalism
Medical terminology refers to the language used in medicine that allows healthcare professionals to communicate with each other.
Maintaining a healthy balance between caring for patients without becoming emotionally attached is essential to a professional approach to delivering health care.
A code of ethics refers to a written list of a profession’s values and standards of conduct

Fraud intentional deception of another person to the persons detriment
Abuse practices or customs that are unsound or inconsistent with ethical or fiscal or health care practices
Negligence careless or senseless behavior that causes harm

Battery touching a patient without consent
Informed consent consent given by a patient reviewing and approving the consent for treatment
Implied consent if a patient is unconscious or collapses this type of consent is given
