Text features

The text features defintiton

TermDefinition
Description Explains a topic and its characteristics.
compare and contrast. Explains how things are different and the same
cause and effect When the author what happened and why it happened
problem and solution an issue that occurred and what was done to solve it.
sequence. gives information from way back to most recent.
biography. A story that someone ELSE writes about a person about their life.
Memoir A story someone tells about themselves that is ONLY about a specific time or event in their life.
Autobiography A story that someone writes about their OWN life, covering several years.
Table of contents at the beginning of the book that lists the chapters and contents.
Index at the end of the book that lists all major ideas names and more in alphabetical order.
Glossary. At the end of the book and it lists definitions of key terms in alphabetical order.
Titles/ headings. This is at the top of the text usually is a special font, bigger, or bolder.
Subheadings. Divides the reading into sections usually with different fonts.
Photos/ Illustrations. A picture to go with the text.
captions. A description of the photo or illustration so you know whats going on
maps/ timelines/ tables/ charts. these are features that show scientific, mathematical, or geographic information.
Sidebar these have information that adds to the text, usually on the side of the main text.
