area the number of square units needed to cover a space – multiply length x width
perimeter he distance around the edge of a shape side+side+side+side for a quadrilateral. side+side+side for a triangle

sum the answer you get when you add 9=1+8, 9 is the sum (or 1+8=9)
difference the answer you get when you subtract 8=10-2 8 is the difference (or 10-2=8)
product the answer you get when you multiply 12=6X2 , 12 is the product (or 2X6=12)
