Math unit 5.1-5.3 Simplify Alg Expressions

TermDefinition
term numbers and/or variables separated by addition or subtraction signs.
like terms terms that contain the same variables to the same power or constants
coefficient the number in a term that contains a variable (the number that a variable is multiplied by)
constant a term without a variable
simplest form an algebraic expression that has no like terms and no parenthesis
distributive property states that to multiply a sum or difference by a number, multiply each term inside the parentheses by the number outside the parentheses
linear expression an algebraic expression in which each term is a constant or the product of a constant and the variable raised to the first power
expression a set of terms without an equal sign
