| How did Oligarchs rule? | Used force to get the people to obey the laws |
| What led to the decline of a Oligarchy? | Oligarchs passed laws to make them wealthier. The poor turned to the military generals who promised more rights to overthrow the oligarchs. They would take over and become tyrants |

| How did Tyrants rule? | Made false promises and used force to control people |
| What led to the decline of a Tyranny? | People revolted against tyrant because of false promises and wanted all citizens to share power |

| How did they rule in a Direct Democracy? | Citizens in the Assembly would propose and vote on laws such as trade, war and taxes |
| What led to the decline of a Direct Democracy? | It continued in Greece |
| How is a monarch/king different from a tyrant/dictator? | Monarch inherits power and tyrant uses force, Monarch gets help from advisors and tyrant does not |
| What difficulties did mountains create for the Greek city-states? | Made trade and travel difficult, City-states were isolated and independent from each other |
| What dangers were there when trading and traveling by sea? | Attacked by pirates, Sudden storms could smash ships on rocks sinking them |
| Why did the Greeks set up colonies? | Greece did not have enough farmland to feed their people therefore set up colonies in Rome and Asia Minor for fertile land |
