What had to end (mostly) before Utah could become a state? Polygamy.
Is this a reason FOR or Against women’s suffrage: Utah might not get to be a state if it allowed women’s suffrage: Against.
Before Salt Lake City what was Utahs territorial capital? Fillmore.
What did Supreme Court rule in Reynolds’s v. the United States? Religious belief is protected, religious action may not be protected.
What is a reason Utah wanted to become a state? Vote for president, vote for senators/ representatives, elect leaders, makes laws for the state.
What does republic mean? Citizens vote for people to represent them in government.
What does democratic mean? Everyone votes-majority wins.
What does checks and balances mean? Each branch of government can check or stop the power of the others>
Executive ( branch of government): Governor- suggest laws, Lt.governor-signs bills, Attorney-veto bills, general-national guard.
Judicial (branches of government): Court officers-hear cases, judges-decide if laws are constitutional.
Legislative (branches of government ): Senator-makes laws, representative-budget,taxes.
