What did Justinian Rule? Justinian ruled the Byzantine Empire/Eastern Roman Empire from 527 to 565 A.D.
How did the Byzantine Empire reach it's peak? The Byzantine Empire reached its peak/high point under Justinian’s rule.
What was Justinian's most important achievement? Justinian’s most important achievement and contribution was the reform of Roman law. He set up a commission to collect, revise, and organize all the laws of ancient Rome. This “Body of Civil Law” was known as Justinian’s Code or Justinian’s Code of Law.
Why was the Economy successful? Had a strong central government, peasants made the empire function by working the land, paying taxes, and providing soldiers for the military. The empire used a money economy based on the bezant; the Byzantine gold coin stamped with the emperor’s image.

What is Feudalism? A system of loyalties and protections based on mutual obligations
Why did Feudalism Develop? After the Roman Empire fell there was no strong central government, With no standing army or police societies were plunged into chaos. Feudalism provided some structure to society and offered protection for the masses.
How did Manor Work? The manor was based around a Manor House or a castle. The noble and knight lived there.Fields were divided into three sections.Peasants were given small strips of land to farm after working on the lord’s fields.
How Did The Manor Support Feudalism? Manors provided the income needed to support the knights and soldiers demanded by the monarch.A monarch could not oversee all of the land himself.
What is Manor? The Manor System was the basic economic system that grew out of and supported Feudalism.

What is Knighthood? Knighthood was really very much like an apprenticeship/mentorship. Attaining knighthood was similar to the stages in your educational career; elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.

What were the codes Knights were to live off? bravery, honesty, respect, loyalty, and compassion. Knights were asked to protect the weak and poor. They were also expected to be courteous towards women.
What was the Women's Role in Feudal Society.? had very little power. were taught they were inferior to men by the Church. played important roles in the lives of both noble and peasant families.

What did Church do? The church kept the Greek and Roman knowledge,taught the knowledge to each other, and were the only ones able to read/interpret the Bible to the people living in the Medieval kingdoms.
What was the main Goal? The main goal of every person in the Middle Ages was to reach heaven by doing whatever they were told, not questioning anything or their position in life, and to be a good Christian.
What was the role of women in medieval society.? The role of women in medieval society. During Medieval Times,women were taught by the Church that they were inferior to men.
What were the Church Punishments? If a person went against,questioned, or challenged church teachings, two extremely harsh punishments could be placed on an individual or on an entire kingdom to control their behavior.
What are Monasteries? Monasteries were religious communities.They also were centers for learning for the people learning to become priests, nuns,or church officials.
