Exponential Functions
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| asymptote | A line that a curve approaches as it heads towards infinity. |
| Exponential function | y=ab^x, where a cannot equal 0, and b is greater than zero but not equal to 1 |
| growth rate | r, the percentage at which a function grows |
| decay rate | r, the percentage at which a function decays |
| growth factor | 1 + r |
| decay factor | 1 - r |
| exponential growth function | y= a(1 + r)^x |
| Initial value | a, in an exponential function |
| time | x, in an exponential function |
| exponential decay function | y = a(1 - r)^x |
| y - intercept | Where the graph touches the y axis . The y value when x=0 |
| x - intercept | Where the graph touches the x-axis. The x value when y=0 |
| domain | the set of x values that are defined for the function |
| range | the set of y values that are defined for the function |
| end behaviors | how the y's behave as the x's increase or decrease |
