| Ebb | the movement of the tide out to sea. |
| Sporadic | occurring at irregular intervals or only in a few places; scattered or isolated. |
| Toehold | a small place where a person's foot can be lodged to support them, especially while climbing. a relatively insignificant position from which further progress may be made. |
| Slur | speak (words or speech) indistinctly so that the sounds run into one another. |
| Erratic | deviating from the usual or proper course in conduct or opinion; eccentric: erratic behavior. inconsistent, irregular, or unpredictable: Many factors affect purchasing power, such as inflation and erratic swings in the stock market. |
