Ebb Noun 1. The movement of the tide out to sea. Verb 1. (Of tidewater) move away from the land; recede. 2. (Of an emotion or quality) gradually lessen or reduce.
Sporadic Adjective 1. Occurring at irregular intervals or only in a few places; scattered or isolated.
Toehold Noun 1. A small place where a person's foot can be lodged to support them, especially while climbing. 2. A relatively insignificant position from which further progress may be made.
Slur Verb 1. Speak (words or speech) indistinctly so that the sounds run into one another. Noun 1. An insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage their reputation.
Erratic Adjective 1. Not even or regular in pattern or movement; unpredictable. Noun GEOLOGY 1. A rock or boulder that differs from the surrounding rock and is believed to have been brought from a distance by glacial action.
Etch Verb 1. To cut a pattern, picture, etc. into a smooth surface, especially on metal or glass, using acid or a sharp instrument 2. (Of an acid or other solvent) corrode or eat away the surface of (something).
Disheveled Adjective 1. (Of a person's hair, clothes, or appearance) untidy; disordered.
Lummox Noun 1. A clumsy, stupid person.
Surge Noun 1. A sudden powerful forward or upward movement, especially by a crowd or by a natural force such as the waves or tide. Verb 1. (Of a crowd or a natural force) move suddenly and powerfully forward or upward.
Traipse Verb 1. Walk or move wearily or reluctantly. Noun 1. A tedious or tiring journey on foot. ARCHAIC 2. A slovenly woman.
Immaculate Adjective 1. (Especially of a person or their clothes) perfectly clean, neat, or tidy. 2. Free from flaws or mistakes; perfect. 3.(In the Roman Catholic Church) free from sin.
Enticement Noun 1. Something used to attract or to tempt someone; a lure. 2. The quality of being attractive or tempting.
Precarious Adjective 1. Not securely held or in position; dangerously likely to fall or collapse. 2. dependent on chance; uncertain.
