Elements of plot

TermDefinition
What is exposition? The introduction to a story
What is the initial incident? It introduces the conflict or begins suspense.
What is the rising action? Events that devolp the conflict
What is the climax? The turning point in the story where the conflict is solved or starting to be solved.
What is the falling action? Result of the climax
What is theme? An idea
What is a protagonist? The main character
What is a antagonist? Someone/something(s) that work against the protagonist
What is the setting? Where a story takes place
What is a flat character? A character that can be summed up in 1 or 2 traits
what is a round character? Characters that are complex with many characteristics
what is a realistic character? Have the strengths and weaknesses of a ordinary person
what is a stock character? Characteristics are known bc of the common conception about certain groups of people
What is 1st person point of view? Becomes the character in the story
what is limited omniscient? Limits the knowledge to one character
what is omniscient point of view? Written in 3rd person point of view
