Dynasty A series of rulers from the same family
Xia Dynasty First dynasty of Ancient China. Yu the Engineer (Great) was the legendary ruler of this dynasty. This dynasty is considered somewhat mythical due a lack of written records.
Shang Dynasty The Shang Dynasty followed the Xia dynasty and ruled for over 400 years. This dynasty is known for having the first written records and for using oracle bones in order to ask questions to their ancestors.
Zhou Dynasty The Zhou Dynasty followed the Shang Dynasty and was the longest ruling dynasty. This dynasty started the Feudal System. The lords became disloyal to the king which caused a struggle for power and eventually led to the Warring States Period.
Warring States Period A 200 year era of warfare which followed the Zhou Dynasty. This era was a fight for the control o Ancient China which was eventually won by the Qin Dynasty.
Qin Dynasty short-lived dynasty is the first dynasty to begin using the Term EMPEROR instead of KING.The emperor name was Shi Huangdii and he used legalism to control his society. This dynasty was harsh citizens and began the construction of the Great Wall of Chin
Han Dynasty dynasty is considered the Golden Age of China due to its Advancements. The Han Dynasty developed The Silk Road and invented paper and the seismograph, which was used Predict earthquakes. Theyswitched to Confucianism and used civil service exams
Mandate of Heaven The belief that the emperor of China was given the right to rule by the gods
Monsoon The type of storm that brings 250 inches of rain to southeast China
Legalism - The belief that people are bad by nature and need to be controlled
Terracotta Warriors the clay soldiers which were made to protect Shi Huangdi in his afterlife
Gunpowder and Seismograph two of the great engineering achievements accomplished by Ancient China
Yu the Great The Xia king dug channels to save China from floods
cultural Diffusion The spread of ideas from one culture to another
Oracle Bones Cattle bones and turtle shells that religious leaders used to predict the future
Silk The invention that the Chinese kept secret from the rest of the world for hundreds of years
Silk Road The trade routes that stretched from China to the Mediterranean Sea
Zhou Dynasty The dynasty used the mandate of heaven as justification for rebelling against the Shang
Confucianism The belief system that focuses on family order, social harmony, and government
Filial Piety The belief that one should be good to one’s parents
