TermDefinition
Book cover front cover, spine and back cover. the cover image or cover treatment, a headlining testimonial appearing on top of the cover, your book title and subtitle and your author name.
Title Page a page of a book that has the title and usually the names of the author and publisher and the place and sometimes date of publication.
Table of Contents a listing of your contents
Introduction the introduction makes clear to the reader the text's purpose.
Chapters Subjects in your books.
Heading a word, phrase, or sentence at the beginning of a written passage that explains what it's about. A heading is very similar to a title. A heading is similar to a caption, a line below a photograph that briefly explains it.
Subheading a mini-headline given to a subsection or paragraph within a main piece of writing. They're smaller than the main heading but larger than the paragraph text of the article.
Illustrations/Pictures a picture or diagram that helps make something clear or attractive.
Maps a drawing of all or part of Earth's surface.
Charts, Graphs, Tables A chart (sometimes known as a graph) is a graphical representation for data visualization, in which "the data is represented by symbols, such as bars in a bar chart, lines in a line chart, or slices in a pie chart".
Tables composed of lines that form boxes and are used to record facts in an organized way
Captions the words printed underneath a picture or cartoon which explain what it is about.
Text box A box or some other shape that contains text; Show the reader that information is important or interesting.
Keywords used to define words you may need to know, or explain what something means
Bold signal important information or new words.
Italicized Authors use italics to signal important words, new ideas, or foreign words.
Hyperlinks to connect to another page, image, document, etc. on a website or computer document
Appendices This is an area where you can add supporting information that you feel is necessary but doesn’t flow well or fit in the body of your book.
Glossary words in ABC order with definitions.
Index The index is an alphabetical list of words, phrases, or topics mentioned in the book. This list is added to the end of the book. The page numbers where each item can be located in the book are also included in the index.
