Photosynthesis

QuestionAnswer
What are the 3 things plants need to start photosynthesis Water, Carbon Dioxide and Energy from the sun
What are the 2 things produced by the process of photosynthesis? Glucose (sugar) and Oxygen
What is the major food producing organ in the plant? Leaves
What is photosynthesis? a series of chemical reactions that convert light energy, water and carbon dioxide into the food-energy molecule glucose, and give off oxygen.
Which layer has the stomata embedded in it? Lower Epidermal Layer
Where do gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen, enter and exit the plant? Stoma or Stomata
True or False: Green plants reflect all colors but green. False
Where is chlorophyll located? Chloroplast
What structure captures light energy for the plant? Chlorophyll
What are made in the second step of photosynthesis? Sugars
What combines together to form sugar molecules? Carbon dioxide and water
How is the position of the palisade mesophyll cells within the leaf related to its function? It allows the most cells to obtain the most sunlight for the plant
What is cellular respiration? a series of chemical reactions that convert the energy in food molecules into a usable form of energy called ATP
What two parts of the cell does cellular respiration take place? Cytoplasm and mitochondria
What is the first step of cellular respiration? Glycolysis
What is glycolysis? a process by which glucose is broken down into smaller particles
Where does glycolysis take place? Cytoplasm
Where does the second step of cellular respiration take place? Mitochondria
What is gas is required to break down glucose during cellular respiration Oxygen
What is produced in large amounts during the second step of cellular respiration? ATP (Energy)
What two waste products are given off during the second step of cellular respiration? Carbon Dioxide and water
Which waste product is used by plants during photosynthesis? Carbon Dioxide
Why is photosynthesis important? Because plants help maintain the atmosphere you breathe. It also produces most of the oxygen in the atmosphere.
Why is cellular respiration important? Because if you body did not break down and rearrange the food you eat, you would not have energy to do anything. Plants produce their own food but without cellular respiration, plants could not grow, reproduce, or repair tissues.
Be able to label the picture on pages 10 and 15.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
