Unit 7: Chemical Rxn
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Chemical Equation | a written description of a chemical change (reaction) |
| Reactants | The substances available at the start of a chemical reaction (always left of the arrow) |
| Products | The substances made (produced) during a chemical reaction (always right of the arrow) |
| Coefficients | the number in front of the chemical formula represents the number of moles |
| Law of Conservation of Mass | During a chemical reaction mass is never created or destroyed. (The atoms are only rearranged) |
| stoichometry | the calculation of quantities of substances involved in chemical reactions |
| Finding the number of moles | The actual mass divided by GFM (from Periodic Table) |
| Synthesis reaction | Two or more substances combine to form one product |
| Decomposition reaction | 1 substance breaks down into 2 or more substances |
| Single Replacement reaction | When 1 atom replaces another during a chemical reaction |
| Double Replacement reaction | two ions swap places in a chemical reaction. It must start with two ionic compounds and will have two ionic compounds at the end |
| Precipitate | A solid that forms from a solution during a chemical reaction. Will not dissolve. |
