Unit 7: Chemical Rxn

QuestionAnswer
Chemical Equation a written description of a chemical change (reaction)
Reactants The substances available at the start of a chemical reaction (always left of the arrow)
Products The substances made (produced) during a chemical reaction (always right of the arrow)
Coefficients the number in front of the chemical formula represents the number of moles
Law of Conservation of Mass During a chemical reaction mass is never created or destroyed. (The atoms are only rearranged)
stoichometry the calculation of quantities of substances involved in chemical reactions
Finding the number of moles The actual mass divided by GFM (from Periodic Table)
Synthesis reaction Two or more substances combine to form one product
Decomposition reaction 1 substance breaks down into 2 or more substances
Single Replacement reaction When 1 atom replaces another during a chemical reaction
Double Replacement reaction two ions swap places in a chemical reaction. It must start with two ionic compounds and will have two ionic compounds at the end
Precipitate A solid that forms from a solution during a chemical reaction. Will not dissolve.
