What is auscultation? | Process of listening to body sounds. Detect the flow of blood through an artery and perform auscultation extensively in the general exam to assess sounds from the heart, lungs and abdominal organs |
What is palpation? | Assess characteristics such as texture, temperature, shape and the presence of vibrations or movements; may palpate (on the skin surfaces) |
What is Percussion? | Involves tapping or striking the body to hear sounds or feel vibrations. Determines location, size, or density of a body structure or organ under the skin |
Mesuration | Process of measuring. Ex; done to monitor the growth of the uterus during pregnancy or to note the length and diameter of an extremity or a wound |
Manipulation | Systematic moving of a patient’s body parts. EX; Check for abnormalities that affect the movement. Determine a joint’s range of motion |
