Integer Rules

Adding Integers Same Sign -3+(-4) Add and keep the sign -3+(-4)=-7
Adding Integers Different Sign -5+8 14+(-20) Subtract and take the sign of the bigger number -5+8=3 14+(-20)=-6
Subtracting Integers -5-(-9) Add the opposite Rewrite the subtraction problem into addition then follow the rules for addition -5-(-9)=-5+9=4
Multiplying Integers Positive x Positive 4 x 8 Positive 4 x 8 = 32
Multiplying Integers Positive x Negative 5 x (-3) Negative 5 x (-3) = -15
Multiplying Integers Negative x Positive -8 x 5 Negative -8 x 5 = -40
Multiplying Integers Negative x Negative -8 x (-7) Positive -8 x (-7) = 56
Dividing Integers Positive / Positive 24 / 8 Positive 24 / 8 = 3
Dividing Integers Positive / Negative 45 / (-3) Negative 45 / (-3) = -15
Dividing Integers Negative / Positive -30 / 5 Negative -30 / 5 = -6
