| Falling action | Events that occur after the climax |
| Resolution | Final outcome or solution to the conflict |
| Theme | Central message or lesson of the story |
| Tone | Author's attitude towards the subject |
| Mood | Emotional atmosphere or feeling created in the reader |
| Foreshadowing | Hints or clues about future events in the story |
| Flashback | Scene that interrupts the present to show a past event |
| Suspense | Feeling of uncertainty or anticipation in the reader |
| Figurative language | Uses figures of speech to create meaning; metaphors, similes, personification, hyperbole, etc. |
| Simile | Comparison using 'like' or 'as' |
| Metaphor | Comparison without using 'like' or 'as' |
| Personification | Giving human qualities to non-human things |
| Imagery | Vivid language that appeals to the senses |
| Point of View | Perspective from which the story is told |
| First person POV | Narrator is a character in the story |
| Third person limited | Narrator knows thoughts and feelings of one character |
| Third person omniscient | Narrator knows thoughts and feelings of all characters |

| Indirect characterization | reveals a character's traits through actions and dialogue |
| Static character | Character who remains the same throughout the story |
| Dynamic character: | Character who undergoes significant change |
| Protagonist | Main character or hero of the story |
| Antagonist | Character or force in conflict with the protagonist |
| Subordinate character | Less important character who supports the main characters |
