Text Features

QuestionAnswer
provide information about the content without being part of the main text; they provide additional clues to help the reader comprehend the text text features
writing that gives information, directions, or explains something to the reader expository text
writing that gives facts and information to the reader informational text
title of an article in a newspaper or magazine heading/headline
title of a section of a text subheading/subtitle
a picture or other images within a text graphic
events arranged on a line in chronological order timeline
a labeled drawing diagram
a way of organizing information into boxes or pictures graphic organizer
writing under a picture which gives more information about the picture caption
an alphabetical listing of important terms and definitions - found in the back of the book glossary
a list of the chapters or major sections of a book, and is found in the front of the book table of contents
an alphabetical list of the subjects contained in a book, and is found in the back of the book index
a drawing that shows a geographic location, and usually has a key map
