| abomination | Something intensely disliked; something horrible; an outrage |
| affidavit | a written statement that you swear is true, for use as proof in a court of law |
| beguile | to persuade or trick someone into doing something |
| blasphemy | Something that is insulting to God or to people's religious beliefs |
| conjure | to raise up, to summon, to invoke the name of |
| contention | argument or disagreement |
| conviction | a deeply-held belief about something |
| covenanted | having made some kind of promise or contract, especially a religious one |
| creed | religious beliefs |
| daft | silly; stupid; crazy |
| dally | to hang around, not doing much; to be slow in getting things done |
| deference | respectful submission or yielding to the judgement, opinion, will, etc. of another |
| faction | a small group within a larger group that undermines the harmony of the whole group; a splinter group; a divisive group |
| falter | to become weaker and unable to continue, often from exhaustion, in a way that leads to failure |
| forged | made, created |
| formidable | challenging, tough, difficult, intimidating |
| heathen | a person who is not connected with the Christian religion or another major faith |
| ideology | set of beliefs about the right way to live |
| indictment | a court proceeding or written document that formally and officially charges a person with a crime |
