| Term | Definition |

| Weathering | the breaking down of rock into smaller pieces by wind, water or ice |
| Erosion | The process in which sediment is carried away by wind, water or ice |
| Deposition | The process in which sediment falls/drops to the ground, over time forming layers |
| Compaction | the pressure of the layers compacts (squishes) the layers |
| Cementation | the sediment begins to stick together and harden forming sedimentary rock |
| Limestone | a type of sedimentary rock that has fossils of dead sea organisms |
| Sandstone | a type of sedimentary rock formed from sand |
| Sediment | small pieces of rock/debris |
| V shaped canyon/valley | formed by moving water such as a river |
| Delta | formed when a river empties into a larger body of water, sediment drops forming a triangular shape |
| Glacier | Large block of ice that moves slowly carrying sediment. Can create a u shaped canyon |
| U shaped canyon/valley | Formed when a slow moving glacier carved out a U shape |
| Sand Dune | Formed when sand erodes (is blown by wind) and deposited into different area |
