Entrepreneur A person who starts a business
Natural Resources Materials that come from the Earth that can be used to produce goods and services
Smog Air pollution caused by automobiles and factories. This problem is especially bad in London and Mexico City.
Deforestation When trees in the Amazon Rainforest are cut down to make space for farm land.
Imports Goods coming into a country
Exports Goods leaving a country to be sold in other countries
Presidential Democracy When a country's leader is directly chosen by voters. Examples: United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Russia
Parliamentary Democracy When a country's leader is indirectly chosen by voters (Voters select Parliament, who then select leader.) Examples: Great Brittain and Germany
Autocracy Citizens do not have free or fair elections. A dictator is in charge. Examples: Cuba, Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany
Parliament The legislative body of a Parliamentary Democracy.
Legislative The branch of government that makes the rules
Executive The branch of government that enforces the rules. (President or Prime Minister)
Dictator Leader of a country who has complete control and can not be voted out
Monarchy Type of government, in which a king, queen, or tsar inherits their position through a royal family
Specialization When a person, business, or country specializes in producing a specific good or service, because they are good at producing that particular good/service
Nazis Political party led by Hitler in Germany that was responsible for the Holocaust against Jews.
Communism Political system in which the government owns everything
Treaty of Versailles Agreement that ended World War I. Led to the rise of Nazism, because Germans were angry about the Treaty's penalties against Germany
Mixed Economy Economy that is a mix of market and command. People have freedom to make economic decisions, but businesses also have to follow some rules and laws
Currency Exchange Trading one country's currency (or money) for another country's currency.
European Union An organization that promotes trade between member countries
GDP Total value of all goods and services produced within a country
GDP per Capita A country's GDP divided by its population (the number of people who live there)
Investment Spending money with the goal of making money later on
Trade Barrier Anything that blocks or slows trade between two countries
United Kingdom's Government Parliamentary Democracy

Lenin Communist dictator of Russia after the Russian Revolution
