Ratios & Proportional Relationships terms

TermDefinition
Constant of Proportionality a constant ratio of two variables related proportionally; often represented by the variable k
Equivalent Fractions fractions that name the same amount or part
Fraction a number in the form a/b, where b ≠ 0
Non-vertical Line a line that is not vertical, not straight up and down, not perpendicular to the horizontal
Proportion an equation that states that two ratios are equivalent
Ratio a comparison of two quantities by division
Scale Drawing a drawing that uses a scale to make an object smaller than or larger than the real object
Scale Factor the ratio used to enlarge or reduce similar figures
Similar Triangles triangles whose corresponding sides are the same ratio
Slope a measure of the steepness of a line on a graph; the rise divided by the run
Steepness the incline of a line measured by the absolute value of the slope
Unit Rate a rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit
