1. In the mid-1700s, England and France faced off in a major European power struggle known as the Seven Years' War. What was this war known as in the American colonies? French and Indian War
Why is the conflict named the "French and Indian" War? Because American and British soldiers combined to fight against French and Indian soldiers.
In 1763, the British and French signed the Treaty of Paris, thus ending the French and Indian War. Describe the most significant result of this conflict. It established England as the dominant European presence in North America & taxed the colonist.
Many historians believe that the French and Indian War was one of the leading causes of the American Revolution (which took place two decades later). Why? The British spent a great deal of money during the French and Indian War, which they tried to recover by taxing the colonists.
As a result of the French and Indian War, what territory did Britain gain in America? Britain gained all French territory east of the Mississippi river and Spanish Florida
Why did the American colonists not like the Navigation Acts? They restricted how the American colonists could ship and sell goods to other nations.
The Stamp Act forced the colonists to pay a small fee on all printed material. Americans felt that this unreasonable fee was an example of what? taxation without representation
What were the Townshend Duties? Taxes on paint, paper, glass, lead, tea, and other items imported into the colonies.
The Stamp Act, Townshend Duties, and Tea Act were all different just different forms of taxes. Why did these taxes infuriated the colonists so much prior to the American Revolution? Colonist had no vote on the laws
When the Stamp Act was passed in 1765, Christopher Gadsden led a group of Rebels in Charleston who protested the tax and other abuses of the British Parliament. What was the name of Gadsden's group? Sons of Liberty
During the Boston Tea Party of 1773, colonists climbed on board British ships and threw barrels of tea overboard. Soon after, a similar "tea party" took place in Charleston. Why did the colonists want to destroy the tea? To protest the Tea Act, which colonists felt was "taxation without representation."
In 1774, the colonies (except for Georgia) sent delegates to Philadelphia for the First Continental Congress. What was the purpose of this meeting? To decide what action should be taken to deal with the growing tensions between the American colonists and England.
On April 18, 1775, British troops started to march from Boston to Concord, Massachusetts, to take control of a building where the American colonists were storing weapons and ammunition. What happened on the way to Concord? The British soldiers were met by the American militia in the town of Lexington. Shots were fired, and the American Revolution began.
What was the most effective protest carried out by the colonists against the Stamp Act? boycott of British goods.
In 1774, the delegates to the First Continental Congress met and decided to do what? boycott of British goods.
The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. What was the primary purpose of the Declaration? To explain that the colonies wish to sever ties with the British government and to give the reasons why.

Describe the feelings of the American colonists in the years leading up to the American Revolution? The colonists were split among the "Patriots" and the "Loyalists" and those who did not care either way.
Who were the Loyalists? Those who wanted to remain loyal to the King of England
Who were the patriots? Those who wanted to go to war with England and be independent
Who did the Native Americans side with? The British
Who did African Americans fight for? Both Sides
