Text Features

TermDefinition
Table of contents Helps the reader identify key topics and there order it is located in the front of the book.
Headings They tell the reader what a section of the book is about.
Subheading They tell the reader what a section of the book is about. Under the heading.
Illustrations Help the reader visulize and understand the text. Drawing, painting, digital grafic.
Captions They help the reader better understand a photograph
Photographs They show the reader what something looks like in real life.
Timeline They help the reader to see important events in order.
Charts and Graphs They show information/data in a visual way so that it is more easily understood by the reader.
Diagrams Shows the parts of something in the form of a drawing.
Labels They explain what certain parts of a diagram are called.
Maps They show the location of things or places in picture form.
Bold words They make words stand out as new or important. The words are usally defind in the glossary.
Glossary It tells what the new or important words mean. Listed A-Z
Hyperlinks They tell the reader where on the internet they can find additional information.
Index It tells the reader witch page they should look to find information about a certain topic.
