| renewable | something that will not run out when used |
| biomass | organic material used as fuel |
| geothermal | energy from the heat from the earth |
| tidal energy | energy from the rising and falling tides |
| solar energy | energy from the light and heat from the sun |
| wind energy | energy from the movement of wind |
| hydroelectric energy | energy from the movement of water, typically at a dam |
| non-renewable resources | resources that are being used faster than the Earth can produce |
| nuclear energy | energy from the chain reaction of atoms, typically uranium |
| fossil fuels | CON: coal, oil/petroleum, and natural gas made from the remains of living things |
| fossil fuel emissions | when fossil fuels are burned, they release green house gases |
| pollution | adding harmful materials to the environment |
| recycle | converting waste into usable materials |
| conservation | preventing the wasteful use of resources |
| global warming | the gradual increase in global temperatures |
| climate change | long term shifts in temperature and weather |
| greenhouse effect | the trapping of heat from the sun due to the transparency of Earth atmosphere and gases that trap in heat |
| greenhouse gasses | certain gases that trap in the heat from the sun, includes methane and carbon dioxide |
| contour plowing | farming technique that helps prevent erosion, plowing in the shape of the mountains |
| terracing | farming technique that resembles steps, helps reduce erosion |
| crop rotation | farming technique where the farmers use different crops to not deplete the nutrients in the soil |
| clear cutting | removal of all trees in an area typically for farming reasons |
| deforestation | removal of all trees in an area |
| reduce | using less of a resources |
| reuse | using the same resource again |
| recycle | using a waste produce for another product |
