Chapter 12
System Evacuation
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| deep vacuum | the term used to describe a vacuum that is in the 50–250 micron range |
| dehydrating | the removal of water vapor and moisture from a system during the evacuation process |
| evacuation | the process of removing moisture and noncondensable gases from an air conditioning system prior to startup and charging |
| micron gauge | the test instrument used to measure the level of vacuum in an air conditioning system |
| noncondensable gas | any gas that is unable to condense at the pressures and temperatures normally encountered in air conditioning and refrigeration systems |
| noncondensable | gases that will not change from a vapor to a liquid within the normal pressure ranges commonly found in air conditioning and refrigeration systems |
| sludge | organic solids made up of moisture, acid, and refrigerant oil |
| two-stage rotary vacuum pump | vacuum pump that is made up of two rotary pumps where the outlet of one pump is the inlet of the second |
| vacuum | the condition that is present when the pressure in a vessel is below atmospheric pressure, 0 psig |
| vacuum pump | piece of equipment used to reduce the pressure in an air conditioning system during the evacuation process |
| vacuum pump oil | oil specially designed for use in vacuum pumps |
