What is matter? Anything that has mass and takes up space
What are atoms? Basic building block of everything (matter)
What are three subatomic particles? protons, neutrons, and electrons
What is the charge of a proton? positive
What is the charge of a neutron? neutral
What is the charge of an electron? negative
What subatomic particles are found in the nucleus? protons and neutrons
Where are the electrons in an atom found? electron cloud
What is equal to the atomic number? protons and electrons
APE MAN Atomic number= Protons = Electrons Mass - Atomic Number = Neutrons
How do you find the number of neutrons? Mass (rounded to the nearest whole number)-Atomic Number
What are the two subatomic particles that make up the atomic mass? Protons and neutrons
What is the function of protons? Identify the atom
What is the function of neutrons? Stablalizes the atom
What is the function of electrons? Used for bonding
What is the atomic number? In a neutral atom it is equal to the number of protons and electrons
What is the nucleus? The center of an atom that contains protons and neutrons
