| Evaporation | When a liquid substance becomes a gas |
| Conduction | The transfer of thermal energy from one particle of matter to another. |
| Sublimation | The change in the state from a solid directly to a gas without passing through the liquid state. |
| Freezing | When a a liquid turns into a solid when its temperature is lowered below its freezing point |
| Melting | When a solid turns into a liquid when its temperature reaches melting point. |
