|---|---|
| matter | anything that has weight and takes up space |
| volume | the amount of space taken up by something |
| the three states of matter | solid, liquid, gas |
| solid | matter that has a definite size and shape |
| liquid | matter that has a definite size but no definite shape |
| gas | matter that has no definite size and no definite shape |
| freezing point | the temperature at wich a liquid becomes a solid |
| melting | the temperature at wich a solid becomes a liquid |
| boiling point | the temperature at wich a liquid become a gas |
| property | physical characteristics that we can use to describe matter |
| subtance | matter that is made up of one kind of atom or molecule , and that has specific properties |
| element | a sustance that can't be broken down into other subtances through physical changes or chemical reactions |
| hardness | a measure of how difficult it is to scratch or crush a certain type of matter |
| melleabity | a measure of how easily matter can be shaped into different forms |
| conductivity | a measure of how easily matter transports heat or electricity |
| magnetism | a measure of how matter reacts to a magnet |
| mixture | anything made by combining two or more different things |
| solution | a mixture wich two kinds of particles are evently distibute in container |
| solute | the subtance dissolved in a solution |
| solvent | the substance in a solution that does the dissolving |
| solubility | the meassure of a substance's ability to be dissolved |
| saturation | the point at which no more solute can dissolve in a solution |
| chemistry | the science of different kinds of matter and how that matter can change |
| chemical change | a change that occurs when the particles that make up two or more subtances are rearranged to from a new subtance |
| physical | a change in the shape or form of matter; they do not form a new subtance |
| reactants | the suntance that changes in a chemical reaction |
| product | the subtance that forms in a chemical reaction |
| conservation of mass | the scientific rule that says that matter is never made or lost |
