Fractions and Ratios Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Area Model A model for multiplication problems in which the length and width of a rectangle represent the factors, and the area of the rectangle represents the product.
Discount The amount by which the price of an item is reduced in a sale, usually given as a fraction or percent of the original price, or as a “percent off.”
Quick Common Denominator (QCD) The product of the denominators of two or more fractions. For example, the quick common denominator of ¼ and 3/6 is 4 * 6, or 24. In general the quick common denominator of a/b and c/d is b * d.
Unit Fraction A fraction whose numerator is 1. For example, ½, 1/3, 1/8, and 1/20 are unit fractions.
Unit Percent One percent (1%)
