Waft to wave an odor toward your nose
Ventilate to move air (open windows and turn on the fume hood)
Corrosive a chemical that can eat away at metals and body tissues
Flammable able to burn and produces vapor that is easily ignited below 100*F
Combustible able to burn, needs to be above 100*F to produce ignitable vapor
Irritant a chemical that bothers the body in a variety of ways
Ingestion act of eating
Inhalation act of breathing
Respiratory pertaining to breathing
Toxic poisonous
Unstable a chemical that is easily changed during storage
Explosive a chemical that burns in a violent manner, shattering violently
Oxidizer a chemical that reacts quickly with Oxygen, commonly combustible fuels
Carcinogen shown to cause cancer
Effloresce when a liquid seeps through the cap on its container and forms crystals on the outside of the container.
Volatile a liquid that evaporates easily (you’ll notice its smell in the air)
Nonvolatile a liquid that does NOT evaporate easily (it doesn’t fill the air)
Fuming a chemical that gives off a gas (may or may not be toxic)
Absorption a chemical that “soaks into” your skin or mucous membranes
Shelf life the length of time a chemical can be safely stored
Pictogram a picture that shows the hazards of a chemical
