| Waft | to wave an odor toward your nose |
| Ventilate | to move air (open windows and turn on the fume hood) |
| Corrosive | a chemical that can eat away at metals and body tissues |
| Flammable | able to burn and produces vapor that is easily ignited below 100*F |
| Combustible | able to burn, needs to be above 100*F to produce ignitable vapor |
| Irritant | a chemical that bothers the body in a variety of ways |
| Ingestion | act of eating |
| Inhalation | act of breathing |
| Respiratory | pertaining to breathing |
| Toxic | poisonous |
| Unstable | a chemical that is easily changed during storage |
| Explosive | a chemical that burns in a violent manner, shattering violently |
| Oxidizer | a chemical that reacts quickly with Oxygen, commonly combustible fuels |
| Carcinogen | shown to cause cancer |
| Effloresce | when a liquid seeps through the cap on its container and forms crystals on the outside of the container. |
| Volatile | a liquid that evaporates easily (you’ll notice its smell in the air) |
| Nonvolatile | a liquid that does NOT evaporate easily (it doesn’t fill the air) |
| Fuming | a chemical that gives off a gas (may or may not be toxic) |
| Absorption | a chemical that “soaks into” your skin or mucous membranes |
| Shelf life | the length of time a chemical can be safely stored |
| Pictogram | a picture that shows the hazards of a chemical |
