main character the character(s) that the story centers around
minor character the one who interacts with the main character and helps the story along
protagonist the central character (Person, animal, or personified object) in the plot's conflict
antagonist in conflict with the protagonist (society, nature. another person, , his self, or fate)
character foil character whose traits are in direct contrast to those of the main character
stereotype character that possesses expected traits of a group rather than being an individual
flat character not fully developed; we know only one side of the character
round character fully developed, with many traits (bad and good shown in the story). We feel that we know the character so well that he/she has become a read person.
character development character appearance, speech and actions, comments of other characters, narrator's comments
static character one who does not experience a basic change during the course of the story
dynamic character one who experiences a change through the events of the story, change is internal and may be sudden, but events of the plot make it inevitable
