| decimal form | a fraction whose denominator is 10 or some power of 10, such as 100, 1000, or 10000 |
| decompose | breaking down a number |
| difference | the answer to a subtraction problem |
| digit | A symbol used to write numbers. The ten digits are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. |
| estimate | a number close to the exact value |
| expanded form | a way to write numbers that shows the place value of each digit |
| exponent | A number that tells how many times the base is multiplied by itself |
| greater than | is used to compare two numbers when the first number is larger than the second number |
| hundredths | 4.38 In the decimal numeration system, the hundredths is the next place to the right of the tenths |
| less than | is used to compare two numbers when the first number is smaller than the second number. |
| midpoint | the middle or halfway between two numbers |
| place value | the value of the place of a digit in a number |
| product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
| rounding | Expressing a number to the nearest thousandth, hundredth, tenth, one, ten, hundred, thousand, and so on as directed. |
| standard form | a common way of using digits. The value of a numeral depends on where it appears in the number |
| sum | the answer to an addition problem |
| tenths | in the decimal numeration, tenths is the name of the place to the right of the decimal point |
| thousandths | 0.001 or 1/1000 |
| unit form | using words and numbers |
| word form | a number in written words just like we say it. |
