Person vs. Person Conflict Character vs. another character. Pony vs. Darry Bob vs. Johnny
Person vs. Self-Conflict conflict within a character's mind. Pony vs. finding strength while facing adversity
Person vs. Nature Conflict Person is injured through a natural disaster or accident. Johnny vs. fire (wave tosses you overboard and battling waves/ocean)
Person vs. Society Conflict When a person breaks the rules and traditions of society Johnny and Pony saving the children from the fire and b/c they are "bad" society still doesn't accept them Greasers vs. Society - they struggle to "fit in"

Protagonist the leading character; gain sympathy and support from audience. Ponyboy Curtis Greasers- have a cause; they are poor and always attacked
Antagonist a character that actively opposes or is hostile to someone. Bob Socs - always make things difficult for the Greasers
Plot the main events within a story, play, or book -sequence of events that develops during the story
Climax highest point of tension in the storyline Pony and Johnny running into the burning building
Foreshadowing writer giving advanced hint of what is to come later in the story. About how Johnny ever got jumped again he would use his switch blade and kill them
Direct Characterization when an author tells you EXACTLY what you need to know
Indirect Characterization describing character through thoughts, actions, speech, and dialogue
